Arts Festival

There’s been great weather for the annual MWP Arts Festival…warm, sunny, humid, a little buggy…true summer. And the fact that it falls during the Fourth of July holiday makes it feel even more like summer. This afternoon we strolled along the sidewalk art show, picked out our favorites, and caught up with friends and acquaintances. You can listen to live and local music, inhale the greasy aroma of funnel cakes, and do a lot of people watching (without looking obvious). You can, also, vote for your favorite artwork but I never even pick up a ballot. To me, art should just be, not be judged. What speaks to me may not speak to you. And is a painting “the best” if it looks like a photograph? Isn’t there more to it? Isn’t art too personal to vote on? Yup, says I.

Kids had a chance to paint murals in the outdoor sculpture court. One of my favorites was a vibrant watercolor of a huge chunk of Swiss cheese captioned “I Love Cheese” in matching cheese-colored printing. And really, who doesn’t?

Hmmm…maybe I SHOULD vote. Cheese, please.
